Notably, he’s enjoying some of the fresh lobster based dishes, but in particular, the lobster roll.  Now, I’ve enjoyed one last fall when visiting Mike and I’ve gotta say, they’re quite tasty.  But here in Maryland, we’re in crab country, not lobster country.  Can one get a good lobster roll around?

Well, probably not.  But will you settle for a Delaware restaurant?  While in Rehoboth this past weekend we dropped into a restaurant called ‘Fins Fish House & Raw bar“, a good restaurant with a wide selection of fresh fish.  And while I’m not here to review this restaurant in its entirety, I have to admit that I was impressed by their fish selection and preparation of their fish (I had a blackened red snapper over a house salad, delicious).  Meanwhile, Jessica ordered a lobster roll with a side of tater tots.  I raised an inquisitive eyebrow: lobster roll, this far south?

The roll came with a wedge of lemon, and a long 8″ sub-style roll stuffed with fresh lobster.   The quantity of lobster was very impressive, there was minimal filler in this roll and it was filled with large chunks of fresh lobster.  The lobster itself was sweet and well cooked, not chewy, but tender and delicious.  In fact, unlike a lot of other seafood-style salads and rolls, by virtue of having very little filler, the flavor of the lobster dominated each bite.  This was a solid deal and a very pleasant surprise for an area not generally known for it’s lobster rolls.  Now, to see how it stacks up using Mike’s Criteria!

Category: Cold Lobster Roll

Meat: 2.0 – The freshness of the lobster was great, and the large lump portions provided plenty of delicious lobster/$!

Bun: 0.5 – It was ok, but the bun was just a bit bit in comparison to the lobster salad.  Bread was fresh though.

Butter: 1.0 – The mayo-based sauce was great, notably in how limited it was applied.

Salt/Seasoning: 0.25 – The seasoning was great.  It was light and served merely to accentuate the lobster in the roll, rather than steal the show.

Using this rating system, Fins Fish House & Raw Bar comes out with a solid 3.75 score, on the high end our score between me being willing to head back there and eat again, and to being so enjoyable that  I would recommend to others.  Nice work Fins!
